Congratulations Susan Page on your lovely new mare!
Charmd is a sweet and friendly mare, she travels well, is not mare-ish at all, is easy to handle, and is a stunning color with her black legs, mane and tail. She acts very much like an Arab/QH cross but she is pure Arabian and has a phenomenal Spanish pedigree. This mare is forward but paces herself out well on the trail, with a nice big trot that isn’t bone-jarring. She has a great rear-end that is built for the mountains, she drives very well from behind. On trail she could care less about traffic, she sets a great endurance pace and just stays there whether she’s passing or being passed.
She has an awesome heart; she vetted in to the Ft Howes 1* (June2013) acting very excited about the blasting wind and all the happenings, but the vet was shocked that her heart was at a steady 32bpm – and she drops like a rock when you come into the vet checks. Although she is young, she is already CEI1* qualified, so she’s settling very nicely into what I presume will be a long endurance career. All this said, she is not a finished product, we are working her out of some old habits like spooking, and clenching her teeth when being bridled, but she is catching on very quickly, these habits have already improved so we plan to just stay consistent with her to make sure the lessons “stick.” Although she spooks, she is quite honestly very easy handle and ride and is very well behaved.
